How to get rid of Spyware plus special coupon codes

by Andre on November 30, 2009

If you are like most people you get at least 3 to 4 emails, Tweets and FaceBook posts with promises of a Free Teeth Whitening,  “Hey, I made $129 dollars from Google, check out this website xxx.bit.ly/xF556″,  or “Lose weight, remove toxins, FREE trial, heres how! t=HtTp://QwExxxx.cc.com”.   It gets your attention and you click on the links to find out more information.  All of a sudden, your screen goes crazy and these crazy ads start popping up on your screen. The smarter hacked sites don’t even display ads.  A week or two later you find out that your trusted computer mysteriously starts sending out similar e-mails to your friends with similar thing.   You get e-mails back from your friends and co-workers who are a little annoyed or puzzled  that their computer crashed because of that e-mail “YOU” sent out.  Your cool well behaved computer slows down to crawl.   More than likely, your computer has picked up a Virus, Spyware, Root Kit etc.  Now your big question is: How to get rid of these pesky Viruses and Spyware?

Step 1 How to get rid of Spyware

Make sure you have one of the top 3 Spyware programs installed on your computer.  I am not talking about the Free Stuff that a certain cable companies gives you for free.  Research show that this software only detects 80% of all Viruses and Spyware.  Talk about a false sense of Security!   The top three are:

Kaspersky Internet Security

Kaspersky Lab E-Store

Trend Micro Internet Security Suite

Trend Micro's Internet Security 2010

Norton Internet Security

Symantec's Norton Internet Security 2010

These programs all include three essential tools to protect you online.

  1. You get an AntiVirus software
  2. You get a FireWall to protect your computer from network attacks
  3. You get Spyware detection and spoof site monitoring to aleart you to scam sites (a big deal)

You do not get a pass if your subscription is outdated. See step 3 below.

Step 2 Install the Virus software on all your computers especially the one used by children

Many people will only purchase one copy for  their main home or office computer and neglect to install software to protect the lesser or seldom used computers.  Children are know to download free games and trials from Bit Torrent sites.  Most of these software are usually obtained illegally and have hidden viruses and Spyware installed uh, I mean hidden inside.  So whenever you exchange files or e-mails  with these infected computers your other main computer gets infected also.

Step 3 Renew your subscriptions before it expires

There are literally thousands of viruses released every month. It only take a few minutes to get infected by the latest virus or Spyware that your outdated program does not know about. By letting your subscription lapse you are at risk of being infected. It will cost your a lot more than the $39-$70 you spend on a 3 pack of security software. The last time I checked Best Buy charges about $150 just to re-install all your software on your computer. Not to mention the countless hours lost trying restore your infected files.

I hope you found this post helpful.  I have included the links to the the top 3 below. There is still time to take advantage of all the Cyber Monday and holiday deals.

  • Hi Andre,
Thanks for these informative tips. Spyware is a real problem for people that work on the internet.
This is great for preventing major headaches.
    All the best,
    Eren
  • Constance
Thanks for all the information. It's a good reminder to make sure everything is up-to-date.
  • Andre
    You are welcome Constance.
  • Nice info Andre. Wish I would of had this when my lap top crashed ~ better late than never! ;-) Thanks for the info!
  • Andre
Regina, it really sucks when your computer crashes. I will have to do another post on data recovery and backups for home and WAH folks
  • Thanks for a great post, Andre.

Thank you also for pointing out that viruses and spyware, etc., can come to a computer via email that looks okay.

I also like that you've listed the top three protection resources; I am familiar with (and have used) all three in various years.

For your points, I'd add "to remember to 'set up the software so that it runs/scans regularly' and keeps its security protection features up-to-date.

I look forward to future posts.

    Karen
  • Andre
Karen, excellent point on making sure that scans run regularly. I run scans once a week at 2 AM in the morning. Those three virus and spyware packages listed above does allow you to do that.
  • Thanks for this valuable information. It certainly is important to make sure your computer is protected (I learned my lesson a while ago). This is prevention so maybe you can go over the "cure" for those who don't get protected in time and get that infection they need to get rid of.

Love your coupon codes, etc., very helpful.
  • Andre
Judy, that is a great idea about the cure. I will do a follow-up post on how to "cure" those ills.
  • Andre,

Yes... Kaspersky is at the top of my list as well.
I like how you have it all laid out with discounts / and dates (even coupon codes) That is service!

    Thank you

    Mike
  • Andre
Michael, I am a big Kaspersky fan. They did a very thorough job with their products. They really know how to get rid of Spyware on a infected computer. They also know how to protect you from getting infected. I also like the fact that they send out virus and Spyware updates daily and sometimes even more frequent than that.
  • WOW great post. It's very thorough. I'll be sure to ask hubby if he has the spyware he needs. If not we'll take a look at the links you provided. I have only heard of Norton before though not the others.
  • Andre
Angie it is always good to do an audit. You are on the right track. I like Norton Internet Security, but I like Kaspersky for their faster updates. I think they have the best Spyware tool too.
